EMDR / Trauma therapy

“Changing the memories that form the way we see ourselves also changes the way we view others. Therefore, our relationships, job performance, what we are willing to do or are able to resist, all move in a positive direction.”

Francine ShapiroGetting Past Your Past

I offer trauma therapy in the form of EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing) to alleviate difficulties caused by traumatic experiences and events. These can include PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder), flashbacks, dreams, hyper-arousal, hyper-vigilance (fight or flight), anger, depression and anxiety.

Trauma can be caused by a single event or can build up over time, due to repeated events such as dealing with accidents or being in dangerous or abusive situations. A recent event can trigger strong feelings and memories associated with past trauma.

Pain, particularly that associated with Long Term Conditions, can be successfully helped by EMDR.

Compulsive actions such as overeating, gambling and smoking, in many instances, can be reduced or overcome using EMDR.

EMDR can be a intense experience. Therapy sessions include relaxation and resilience building techniques. A detailed assessment is always undertaken before treatment is agreed, to ensure that it is the most appropriate therapy at that time.
