Mindfulness

This is a form of meditation that although based in buddhism does not rely on adherence to any religious or philosophical model. I encourage the use of this helpful practice. To find out more about it click here.

Mindfulness is a practice aimed at changing the way we experience the thoughts that come and go, and to allow space and time to just be rather than do. We observe the mind following its pattern with compassion and curiosity, but try not respond to the invitation to become involved in the thoughts.

A benefit of this practice is being able to focus the mind on the here and now, often using the breath as a point to come back to when the mind has wandered. As much of our suffering is due to recalling past unhappiness or worrying about possible future problems, letting go and understanding those thoughts as just thoughts can allow a different perspective.
